SPI’s Newest Intern!

SPI Fitness would like to welcome Adam Swartout to the #teamspi family.

Adam just recently graduated from Springfield College where he completed his bachelor’s degree in Applied Exercise Science. Springfield College is well known for their excellent exercise and sports science degree programs so we are very happy to bring that knowledge and skill over to SPI!

The Importance of Constantly Seeking Improvement

Here at SPI Fitness one thing that we as the collective group of coach’s here strive for is to always improve our knowledge base in sports medicine and sports performance and to always add the new knowledge in to our practice.

One negative of the health and fitness industry is that there are a great deal of trainers who are the not so likable know it all type character. Once you think you know it all your professional growth will be stunted and from there your results with clients will suffer and eventually your business as a whole.

I personally spend approximately 30 minutes daily reading top trainer’s and strength coach’s blogs along with the latest clinical research in exercise and sports sciences. ┬áIf I ever felt the need to not do this then I would be doing a major injustice to all the great athletes I work with on a daily basis along with my excellent crew of co-workers at SPI.

I believe accepting the fact that there are always people out there smarter and better than me at what I do keeps me constantly developing as a trainer and coach. This philosophy can help individuals in any industry not just fitness and sports performance.

One thing we are very proud about here at SPI is our never ending quest for improving our knowledge. Our staff as a whole has education in health studies, physical therapy, athletic training, sports management, and exercise science. We are also collectively certified and affiliated with the following organizations; National Academy of Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Athletic Trainer’s Association, and Precision Nutrition.

I myself just got to sit for the National Association of Speed and Explosion’s Speed and Explosion Specialist exam which I just recently passed. This was part of a class I am taking as part of me finishing up my undergraduate degree in sports management before I move into a graduate program in exercise science. I was actually shocked at how much I got to learn and I have already applied lots of the great new concepts from this course with my athletes.

Our Co-founder Mike Jarmak also just recently passed his NSCA- CSCS (National Strength and Conditioning Association – Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) exam and I wanted to give note to that amazing accomplishment!

With all that being said be sure to always make sure your strength and conditioning coach is constantly improving him or her self, and if not find one that is. All the letters in the world behind one’s name does not always mean they are the best in practice!

If you or anyone you know needs some top quality guidance with sports performance, rehabilitation, corrective exercise, or nutritional consulting then email us here at info@spiutica.com to set up your free consultation/assessment.

SPI Combat

SPI Combat is starting September 1st. SPI Combat will be a comprehensive wrestling program running year round covering Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco Roman Wrestling along with strength and conditioning and sports nutrition education available for the wrestlers in the CNY based area.

SPI Combat has close proximity with it’s convenient location inside the Field of Dreams Sports Complex on 2413 NY 5 in Schuyler. The hopes of this program is to give the valley and Utica/Rome wrestlers a year round training facility to call home.

Any questions on the SPI Combat Program can sent directly to marc@spiutica.com

Hope to see you all on the mats come this September!
